Hello! My name is Noor Banihashem Ahmad, and I am 2020 Watson Fellow Recipient. During my year of exploration, I hope to examine community based responses to sexual violence in different countries. What does this mean? I am passionate about the ways people and societies as a whole can come together to empower and support people who have experienced harm. What are the different social and cultural norms that perpetuate harm and allow it to continue? I hope to be able to examine and share how societies can band together to create a community that is open to talking about harm. I hope to center the experiences of real people and gain insight into how a society can reduce the stigma of harm, not only to change small communities but in order to create a world in which we resist rape culture itself.
